In June 2021, I packed up a U-Haul and moved from the life I had built in Stillwater, Oklahoma over the years and moved down to San Antonio, Texas to begin my post-doctoral research career.
I have been selected as a NIDA T32 postdoctoral researcher in the Addiction Research Treatment & Training Center of Excellence at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio). Here, I am working in the Neurobehavioral Research Lab and Clinic in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to conduct research to understand the etiology and treatment of substance use disorders.
At UT Health San Antonio I will be continuing my research in the developmental predictors of risky behavior by specializing my training to understand how family relationships increase risk for substance use initiation. I am also gaining hands-on experience with applied human clinical-trials research examining treatment pathways to reduce alcohol use for individuals arrested for DWI.
When I am not in the office, I am excited to explore my new city, make new friends, and eat a lot of tacos.
